I thought it might be interesting to list all of the games that I’ve ever played, and then I realized just how difficult the task would be. In order to put some kind of limit on it I’m only going to list the ones I personally have devoted a significant amount of time to; I’m going to ignore the also-rather-significant amount of time I’ve devoted to watching other people play games. So! My main character now has a name: Jamie Grieves.
Which was generated by me turning to my Scottish friends and getting them to list typical boy’s names until they came up with one I liked. And then I did an internet search for Scottish surnames.
My criteria: the name had to be endearing, slightly romantic, and Scottish. Atmospheric would be a plus … the name ‘Grieves’ came from a work which meant “steward,” and other forms of this name include ‘Greaves’ and ‘Graves.’
